ValorE - Expert system tools for the breeding waste enhancement

This project aims at the implementation of two different expert system tools at different spatial scale
in order to evaluate agronomic, environmental, economic and regulatory scenarios (and any combination of them).
Those scenarios will provide information to optimize the breedind waste management rules and to reduce their
pollution load.
These tools are completely developed by Informatica ambientale using the most advanced Web-GIS technologies
and a complex environmental modelling system.
The project is coordinated by the Crop Production dept. of the Faculty of Agronomy of the Milan University,
and it sees IA as the software development partner; it involves the principal lombardian actors in the sudy and management
of breeding waste. The software will be used by the Agriculture Directorate of the Lombardy Region to evaluate
agronomic and environmental policy related to the matter.

This project implemented a modular system to the real time management of environmental risks
caused by extreme events in terms of meteorological conditions or technological accidents; it will be a valid
help on identify technologies and optimal procedures to communicate with the population and with
the emergency managers.
This project has been cohordinated by MOPI - Centro Epson Meteo with the participation of IA as software development partner
and the MIlan Bicocca University, CNR and ARIA-NET as scientific partners.
The project was partially funded by the Metadistretti call of tender, issued by the Lombardy region in 2008.

SuSAP Web - An innovative web tool to address a sustainable use of pesticides

SUSAP Web is a web portal developed by Informatica ambientale for ERSAF (Ente Regionale per i Servizi
all'Agricoltura e alle Foreste), a Lombardy region public company. It is a web ready tool freely available for the farm
of the Lombardy region and it helps to evaluate the potential environmental risk of different pest strategies by the means
of the creation of personalised scenarios.
The web portal is virtually linked with several external databases, it implements a Web-Gis to manage the spatial data (parcels,
pedology, etc) and it is stricly connected with a complex environmental modelling system, entirily developed by IA.
SuSAP Web contains several administrative functionalities related to the pesticide usage currently regulated by the regional authority.

The project carried out realization and design of a software application for an estimate of district irrigative needs on a map base and at a regional level. The application interfaces with an increasable database and makes use of ESRI Gis ArcView 3.2 potentiality.
The results of application processing are available by Region Lombardy in order to evaluate monitoring politics and water consumption holding.

VA.TE. is a personal computer program, which permits to make dynamic simulations of herbaceous cultivations growth and of water and nitrogen cycles for zootechnic firms situated in plain areas of Lombardy Region.
The application is matched with one of the most complex cultivation growth model, CropSyst by Washington State University, in order to give the more accurate results. This software permits to analyse system behaviour because it gives a relatively complete and dynamic representation. Also it permits to make this evaluation integrating different information, too often separately analysed (soil, climate, cultivation, agronomic management) and to create, in the end, scenarios to evaluating different manure management strategies in order to obtain costs and pollution reduction.

FitoMarche

FitoMarche is a software for the study and creation of a vulnerability map by pesticides. It is a tool, which matches territory map representation with a complete model as Macro 5.0, developed by Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
It is based upon a stand-alone application, which makes use of an ArcGis 9.1 extension for all calculations at a territory level. It is an instrument that permits to identify areas subjected to a heavier risk in the case of an application of a particular agrochemical, with a level care enough to address an eventual detailed analysis.

EIOVI

Organic viticulture is an important part of the European Union organic farming sector, and, according to the most recent surveys, 1.5% of European Union wine originates from organic farms, with an upward trend. This paper describes an environmental impact of an organic viticulture indicator (EIOVI) that can be reliably used in the management of organic vineyards. The EIOVI can be used as a decision support system for farmers and other property managers by evaluating the potential ecological impact of their choices, thus optimizing management options.
The tool allows the simulation of vineyard management based on six agricultural and ecological modules. The EIOVI is a fuzzy expert system that calculates the relationship between the modules on the basis of a set of 64 decision rules. Initial testing (validation) has been performed using 20 simulations for six Swiss wine-growing estates. The results of these tests were promising; the EIOVI motivates managers to consider the wine-growing estate as a whole by subsummarizing all aspects of management. The visualization of results is very tangible and clearly shows that the use of this indicator could improve the management of the vineyard. With some improvements, the EIOVI will be a helpful assessment tool for vine growers, consultants, environmental agencies, and scientists.

Sipeaa project, financed by Italian Agriculture Minister, has the purpose to give to agricultural producers the instruments to be able to evaluate together environmental, economic and technical aspects coming from their management choices.
Informatica Ambientale S.r.l., under CRA (Centro di Ricerche in Agricoltura) supervision, attends to the realization of the project software tools, in cooperation with the most famous Italian universities.

Seamless is a European project, financed by the Sixth Framework Programme and up to the present in progress, which purpose is to create an integrated framework of computer models for the study and evaluation of alternative cultivations and environmental politics in Europe.
Informatica Ambientale S.r.l. is involved through different scientific partner into the realization of some software prototypes, in particular in the field of soil modelling, of agrochemical fate and agronomical management.

Idra is a framework designed for an integrated management of different decisions support methods, in this case seen as modules of an overall system.
At the moment Informatica Ambientale S.r.l. is developing modules concerning Electre III methods, classical multi-attributes analysis, hierarchical analysis.
The project idea is to offer a common software structure, which can give to the user different instruments to efficiently manage data, different common functionalities and which can compare the results of different methods.

EPRIP - A pesticide sustainability indicator
|

The indicator EPRIP (Environmental Potential Risk Indicator for Pesticide) was
released in 1997 with the aim of providing farmers with advice in selecting the most
suitable pesticide with the least environmental impact. EPRIP 2, the newly developed,
standalone version includes several improvements in the description of driving forces,
in particular plant interception, drift and runoff and new database functionalities.
EPRIP 2 is based upon the Exposure Toxicity Ratio (ETR) of the predicted
environmental concentration (PEC) with toxicological parameters. When several
applications of different active ingredients are used within the same pest control
strategy, EPRIP 2 calculates a score for each active ingredient and for the overall pest
control strategy. The latter evaluation is based on the probability of the EPRIP value
exceeding two fixed risk thresholds. The probability of exceeding each threshold is
calculated using the risk points of every application in the strategy and taking into
account the risk points for surface water, groundwater, soil and air.

Dreams - Demand Responsive Extended Area Mobility Services

DREAMS system is a portal for organization and management of alternative and innovative transport systems, designed for Comune di Milano.
This portal offers the call service DaR (Dial a Ride) and Car Pooling service, visible, at an applicative level, as modules apart.
For what concerns Dar, the management software is able to process customer journey requests, also simultaneous, calculating and reducing bus run in real time.
Car Pooling service is addressed to companies that intend to manage their employee home/work journeys and vice-versa.
Informatica Ambientale S.r.l. contributed to modules DaR and Car Pooling development.

Smog

Smog is a software application, which permits the estimation of atmospheric pollution load at different territorial levels.
It is based on different dispersion and deposition models, some of which are international standards (DIMULA, ISC3) and others permit to calculate particular complex situations (for example CALPUFF, LAG).
